Question

Sonos speaker not connecting

Can someone please help me. I have a Sonos speaker SL one and I always have trouble connecting to it. No matter what I do. If it hasn’t been used in a while then I have to go through the same rigmarole of restarting reconnecting etc etc. This however, It has decided that it does not want to work anymore whatsoever. It says it’s connected to my network when it isn’t. I have restarted the router. I have restarted the speaker. I have gone through the process numerous times on the app. But for some reason it just does not want to connect. He always connected via Wi-Fi as I don’t have a spare ethernet cable. It’s very frustrating and it happens all the time.

Does your network match the requirements in the Sonos Network Requirements FAQ? It sounds, at least potentially, like the network is using some band or encryption (or even possibly a VPN) that the Sonos is unable to ‘break’ through. I’d be tempted to call Sonos Support to discuss it.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

Spare Ethernet cables are handy and cheap. Add one to your next Amazon order or pick one up elsewhere. Do not get scammed on price, a decent inexpensive one is all you need.

These are FAR higher quality than you need but I love the connector and braided cable enough to pay a couple bucks ($6.99) more to get it.

When you are having trouble connecting using the sonos app, see if it shows up using the web controller at https://play.sonos.com/

I had the same thing with my One SL — it would say it was connected when it clearly was not, and restarting the app did nothing. What finally helped me was unplugging the speaker for a full minute and then checking the web control at play.sonos.com, where it showed up even when the app could not see it. Worth a try before you go down the support route.
