Sonos S1 and new Sonos compatibility

Ok so I have a Sonos Play 5 2 x Play 3, a Sonos 1 with Alexa and a boost and connect. I want to add a soundbar and a sub. I spent ages researching and bought a beam (Gen 2) and a sub mini. Plugged them in and neither compatible. I’m guessing it’s only a beam one or an Arc original. No idea on the sub mini. Didn’t really want to start again as everything still works. Mind you if the Arc ultra is as good as it sounds it might be worth it as I’m moving to a smaller house and losing my Marantz Receiver two Kef front speakers and a couple of missions on the surround.

The only speakers that are not compatible with the new app are the Play:5s everything else can be upgraded to the new app so you can also use the Beam and Sub Mini.

There are some updates that are needed, but you can use them play:3 and the One (Play:1) with the new app

Note that there are two generations of the PLAY:5. The first is only S1 compatible. The second generation can run either S1 or S2.

I run a couple of PLAY:3s, a passel of PLAY:1 s, and a pair of PLAY:5s gen 2 on S2.

Near the bottom of this page is a link to help check the generation of your components.

Another way to check is to inspect the serial number of your PLAY:5. If the first four numeric digits are 1501 or greater it’s a Gen 2.
