I’m trying to configure the wifi access on a Sonos Play 1. I’ve following the instructions of resetting the Play 1 and then following the instructions on the app. Unfortunately when I select adding the speaker on the app nothing happens. Is there a way of rolling back the app to a version which was able to configure the wifi username and password on a Sonos Play 1
Try plugging the Play 1 into your router with an ethernet cable to see if it you are able to set it up that way first. If you are able to get it setup, check for updates. Once that is done you can use it wirelessly.
If you find the speaker still has issues with stability on WIFI, you may want to keep it hardwired if possible.
So before the new App updates, the Play 1 speaker was able to be configured to connect to Wifi. I’m now trying to connect it to a new wifi router. I’m factory reset the Play 1 and connected it to the router with an ethernet cable. The problem is that I can not configure Wifi on the Play 1. I’ve followed all the instructions but the step where I select the Play 1 to configure it doesn’t do anything in the App, literally selecting the Play 1 on the App by touching the screen on my phone does nothing. With older versions of the app on the phone (up to 2022), there was no issue configuring the Wifi.
Keeping the Play 1 hardwired with an ethernet cable is working around a fault in the app. It makes an expensive Wifi enable Speaker, not Wifi enabled.

You didn't state that you installed a new router in your original post.
The simplest way to get everything connected when you change routers, is to configure the SSID and password the same as the old router. Since you have already reset the speaker, it does not make sense to do this now. Hardwiring your speaker makes setup easier in this situation.
While Sonos is marketed as a wireless audio solution, there are times when a wired connection is necessary. This is the reason there is an option to hardwire the speaker to your router/network. I have many of my speakers hardwired to this day, and have none of the connection issues I see other users having. That being said, the older hardware in the Play 1,3 and 5 sometimes benefit from hardwiring. This is especially so when used with newer speakers.
The Play 1 is capable of connecting to the Wifi, the latest App for Android is not allowing me to update the SSID or Password to connect. The problem statement is very simple. When I first got this working a few years ago, it was using a wired connection first, then setup wifi and disconnect ethernet.
I’m not sure what the “Sonos is marketed as a wireless audio solution” comment is for. The product should do what it is advertised and capable of doing.
Does anyone know how to get around the bug in the Sonos App
