Sonos one volume drops

You probably need a bigger speaker if you are turning it up to 100!

It's more than likely the the speaker trying to save itself from being destroyed.

I just want it to reach it’s potential atleast. Even 80-90% without the muffling is good enough for me but right now 50% is the same as 100% muffled 🤷🏻

Sorry to hear of this issue your are having with the volume on your speaker. All the volume changes that I see in the diagnsotics (there are hours-worth) show that the source of the volume change command was AirPlay - specifically, from the same device that the diagnostics were submitted from. I see the volume going up to 100% via AirPlay control, and I see it ramping down again via the same, repeatedly.

If this is not intentional adjustment, I would assume that you are accidentally pressing the volume buttons on the side of the iPhone - perhaps the phone is in your pocket?

Although I do use AirPlay to stream music, as I mentioned in my original message, volume drops but the app still shows 100% volume level. 

Maybe the logs you saw are me trying to decrease then increase again? In which case it gets louder for a few seconds, again dropping back(but no real drop in volume on my phone).

I’m pretty sure I’m not accidentally lowering it, as most of the times my phone is on my magsafe charger when I play.

I did see that part of your initial report, which is why the first thing I looked for was volume ramping - as stated by @Pools-3015, it’s not unheard-of for a speaker to protect itself due to excessive temperature, but I saw no evidence of that in the diagnostics, so I looked for volume commands next instead.

It could be as you say and I am only seeing AirPlay commands that you have performed intentionally, but that is really difficult to check without full context:

This is the last 20 minutes from your diagnostic. You can ignore every second line that mentions “mute”, but you can see that it only went to 100% twice. That it jumps from 100 to 60 without any steps in-between is a little suspicious, I’ll grant you.

Could you reboot the speaker, then try to reproduce? The logs will be cleared, and the next time this happens, please do not make any adjustments to the volume until after submitting a diagnostic report - that way, the next diagnostic I look at will not have much in the way of superfluous entries to look at.

It may also be worth trying another iPhone/iPad, if you have that option? It does look like the iPhone is responsible for changes, so it would be interesting to see if you get the same behaviour when using a different device.

That’s exactly what I notice. After the volume decrease at 100%, 50-60% level is the same volume/loudness, as mentioned in my previous reply.

I can reproduce it with my macbook just the same. It decreases after about 25 seconds of playback (11:56am EST) | Diagnostic number: *********

I’m glad to hear our support team were able to help, and thanks for updating the thread!

You might want to get another speaker and create a stereo pair - if you’re at 100% volume a lot of the time, I think you need more power in that room.

Gotta love the IOT of speakers… have had the same issues, did a reset a few weeks ago.  Tonight, the behavior is back again.   Increase the volume via the app or manual, and it plays for a second then jumps back down. 

Resetting is a workaround.  Is there a bug open on this @Support ?

Turns out one speaker of a stereo pair was pulling the volume down.  Found out by unpairing them and found which speaker was resetting it’s own volume.

Solution for me.  Turn it off and back on, but then hit the ‘join’ (infinity symbol)… and “it fixed itself”.
