Sonos era usb-c line-in instead of Sonos port

I'm assuming that the line-in port on the Sonos Era will act as an input which can be played over a whole speaker group? If this is the case is the Sonos Port now more or less redundant if you upgrade at least one speaker from each of your speaker groups to an Era device.

Can anyone confirm if my assumption is correct?

Yes, the line-in adapter on the Era 100 and 300 functions the same as the line-in on a Port. So if you are using the Port only for the line-in feature and not utilizing any of its other features, adding an Era device to your Sonos system could replace the Port. Keep in mind that the line-in feature on the Era 100 and 300 is disabled when they are used as surrounds in a home theater setup.
