Does anyone know why the Sonos Beam Gen.2 seems to consume data with very high bandwidth peaks?

I have a Ubiquiti Unifi network at home, the network manager is reporting >2Gbps transfer peaks to my Beam 2 when in idle (i.e. no ongoing sound output from HDMI or WiFi) however the reported 24hr average data consumption is ‘only’ 250MB

I wonder if the log has a decimal point problem.

On the Dutch community there’s someone complaint about high traffic from Sonos too: https://nl.community.sonos.com/stel-een-vraag-228987/ntp-verkeer-na-laatste-update-6778968

Hi @Living_in_RF_soup

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

The speed at which the data was downloaded suggests that it may have been a system or Sonos Voice Control update, rather than streamed music - as in, a chunk of data that could be downloaded as fast as permitted, rather than at a controlled pace. In either case, I don’t think 263MB is anything to be worried about.

However, having said that, given that the Beam is connecting to 2.4GHz which is not even capable of a third of that speed, I rather suspect that the UniFi system is incorrectly showing the data rates.

I hope this helps.

Yes, you make good points.

Due to the frequent high bandwidth reporting (something like 15 seconds every two minutes) contrasted with the low total data transfer volume, I could well believe this is nothing more than a glitch in the Unifi console.

If/when I get time, I'll ssh in and sniff the traffic with Wireshark and update the thread.

Thanks for your input
