Hello everyone, I am pretty sure I am not the only one who is disappointed with the app that controls our beloved speakers. Personally I am super pleased with the quality of the sound, the design and the materials that were used to build the box. BUT not so much with the App. So instead of complaining, I would like to open a topic that would maybe help the Sonos App developers to find the right path. I would like to list the things that I think (from my experience) needs improvement.

On iPhone App:

  • Volume control! I have to touch 5 times at least to hit the right spot to move the scroller! And when I do the volume jumps instead of smoothly scrolls. Also the lower end of the slide is more sensitive and controls more volume than the upper end. I need a more sensitive lower end control!
  • The vertically sliding tabs. Way too complex. I am an GUI and UI and UX designer and I personally find it difficult to manage the tabs … when they are working. I constantly adjust the EQ based on the Genre I listen to and it takes incredible amount of steps to go back and forth. I think the regular bottom icon layout design would work much better with the position saved. For example: on the Settings Tab -> Selected Speaker EQ (would be saved, but when I would click on the) Music Tab -> Media Library -> Selected Folder (would be active because that’s where I left it)
  • Media Library : Why can’t the position be cached? - it always resets to the root folder!
  • Advertisements!!! Seriously?!?! I want them removed or an option to turn them off!!!!!
  • Side button volume control! OR/And Lock Screen controls. I want it back!!
  • High frequency Static Noise: from all my speakers since I did the update.

Couple of answers, at least.

  1. try tapping on the sides (far right, far left) rather than the round ‘slider’ thing. That should adjust things more incrementally.
  2. n/a
  3. n/a
  4. Have you turned off marketing on your account on Sonos.com itself? Gets the majority of the in controller ads, although not all of them. As far as I’ve seen, it kills all the emails, as well.
  5. on which device? Not going to happen on Apple’s devices, Apple has banned them.
  6. Sounds like a serious issue, but one I’m not experiencing on any of my speakers. Have you called Sonos Support directly to discuss it?

When you speak directly to the phone folks, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

Try one of the 3rd party apps for Sonos.. I think you will be surprised at how well they work..

  4. Yes, but it still bugs me with product purchases. I find this type of marketing super aggressive, it just tarnishes the brand!
  5. yeah I read the article about it.
