Over time the Sonos App on my devices has gotten slower, and slower.  Response time is horrendous.  I figure it’s gotta be from one of two things:

  1. All my devices are OLD Play: 1s and a SoundBar.  Perhaps they’re just getting too old for the current capabilities?
  2. I have found several threads discussing app performance and Network issues.  I’ve done a bit of superficial digging and I don’t **think** I have any network issues going on.  I’ve got a pretty solid and stable network. Several of my devices are wired rather than using wirelss, I’m using SonosNet still on the rest.   I COULD switch them to using regular wifi, though I’m a bit hesitant because I’ve been using SonosNet successfully since before Wifi was an option.

Thoughts on where I should focus my energies?

Hi all

I noticed a significant boost in app performance after attempting to deactivate Sonos Radio.

All I managed to do was deprioritize it by setting Deezer as my preferred service.

hope it helps

Save yourself some time and pain and just go download SonoPhone and pay the $4. My whole system is back being responsive like the old days. Volume is real time and switching songs is a breeze. I was about ready to sell my entire 7 speakers setup!  Sonos should be thanking this developer.

Old and new here.
sonoPhone - instant response

Sonos app - 3-10 seconds lag. For volume changes/turning it off even. Unusable.

1gig internet fibre to the kerb, one router. Bt.

the app sucks

After spending 2 weeks hitting my head trying to figure out if my network is the issue (there were some loop issues that did resolve and all devices working fine now, other than sonos app), have found that Its definitely the app, downloaded Clic and Sonophone apps on my iphone just to see if they work, turns out they work and work fast compared to the Sonos app that sometimes sits there for minutes waiting to discover, or waiting to change the volume or waiting to play the song.

I have one speaker connected to router and most speakers other than roam, move and era 100, running on sonosnet.  I am not sure why the Era 100s are using wifi network whereas the sub mini connected to them is on sonosnet, at least that is what my router tells me.

FINALLY SOLVED THE ISSUE WITH SLOW RESPONS USING THE SONOS APP!

I've also spend huge amounts of time figuring out why my system doesn’t respond or was very very ultra slow responding to volume changes or ‘next song’ in the Sonos app. After reading your comment I installed the app Clic.

Immediately everything works smoothly as it is supposed to work.

My network never had any issues, but I got confused by several people in fora claiming it had to have something to do with double IP addresses or network settings and rebooting the router and so on.

I didn’t change any settings in my network, I only switched to Clic and finally the system works as it should. Next I also installed the Sonophone app. And while using this app (that also worked fine) I suddenly noticed something else! In the Sonophone app you can see the list of songs in the queue of the speakers. It took the Sonophone app a while to list them. It appears there were over 2.000 songs in the list. I replaced the songs in the queue and suddenly even the Sonos app had reasonable respons times!!

Now my theory is that the Sonos app takes ages to load the playlist (songs in queue) first before it can respond to the changes in volume or go to the next song in the sonos app. But once the songs in the queue are gone, the speakers respond quickly, even to the Sonos app! I wonder if this would solve issues for others struggling with the slow respons times of the Sonos app.

How many songs are in the queue of the sonos speakers?

How many songs were in the queue? I removed them (over 2.000...) and suddenly the Sonos app worked fine too!!

Sonos has become a below par service. I cannot recommend it anymore as the app is slow, huge delays and has massive errors. I was a promoter for the company and the product but Sonos really screwed it up. So sorry as I have a lot of money in it🥲🥲

Me too @RexIV
I still do not understand why nothing has been done, instead some management lay offs.

I tested the other app and it is very quick so then it cannot be any other issue anymore than the sonos app. The other app is not pretty and nice as the Sonos App. But the frustration of trying to change volume or track fast is huge…

I did not find any huge queues in the other app. I also blocked the metrics url as mentioned previously and that did nothing for me at least.

Sonos 2 is just rubbish, it’s either completely unresponsive or incredibly slow to load or respond to anything. I spent a fortune on my system and then Sonos ruined it with the new App. Sonos team, please burry it and restore full functionality on Sonos 1.
