I have speakers that run on only one or the two available apps. Is it possible to run some that work on Sonos 2 and the other speaker on Sonos 1?

Yes, you can run a split system, but there are Known limitations with separate S1 and S2 Sonos systems

Sure, there are a lot of threads on that. The key I’ve garnered is you should turn off/unplug all devices of the ‘other type’ when setting them up, but once set up, respond to each individual app without issue.
