Question

Sonos AMP can not be part of a group

Hi!

For several years I have had group-play with Amp, Port, Connect, and 2xRoam enabled.  Has worked great until a firmware update in May (or June) this year.  After that, whenever I add the Amp to the group it shows as all are playing, but the Amp isn’t.  The other units are playing fine.  All devices are up-to-date when it comes to firmware.  I have had high hopes for the recent firmware updates, but no luck there.

Sonos Amp: Bathroom
Sonos OS: S2
Version: 18.7 (build 96179270)
Hardware Version: 1.24.1.12-2.2
Series ID: A101

Does anyone else have this issue?  If so, is there a solution?

Hello @TV xyzzy, welcome to the Sonos Community!

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing an issue with your Sonos Amp not playing audio while in a group with the rest of your system.

First of all, and for troubleshooting purposes, please reproduce this issue and Submit a Diagnostic, then do a network refresh by rebooting all networking devices involved.

Start with your Router → Sonos → Controller (Smartphone/tablet).

Does the issue appear only when the Sonos Amp is used within a group? Does it play normally on its’ own when initiated via the Sonos App?

Attempt group playback again and if the Sonos Amp is still not playing, ungroup everything and re-create the group starting with the Sonos Amp first.

If that didn’t resolve it, please Submit another Diagnostic and reach out to our Support Team for live troubleshooting.

I hope this helps.

Follow the advice of @Sotiris C. However the location of the Amp in a bathroom begs the question…

Are you sure it’s the Amp and not the speakers wired to the Amp as a bathroom collects moisture which could point to damaged wire connections on one end or the other (or the speakers themselves). The exception would be if you are using outdoor rated speakers.

Just something to consider. Good luck to resolve your issue 😊
