I have a secondhand sonos play 1 and amp and have done the factory reset but struggling to set up both units. I have downloaded the Controller ap as its an older version but it keeps prompting me to update the app to Play 2 when I have a play 1. How do I set up both units please?

Hi, I only have 1 play 1 and 3 amps that I want to set up.

Sounds like one of the devices is already upgraded to the S2 app.

Can you post a picture of the front of the Amps?

If they are all compatible with the S2 app. It would be better to upgrade them.

Otherwise you will have to find which device has been updated and with only that device powered on ,

downgrade it to S1:

Do you have any other SONOS players? If so, are they running S1 or S2 firmware. If you bought these used players from different sources you may have one S1 and one S2 unit.

FWIW: “Play 2” is not part of the SONOS lingo. This must be a typing error.

The names S1 and S2 are unrelated to the device name “Play 1”. A Play 1 is both S1 and S2 capable. If the device was last used on S2 you should command it (even after a reset) with the S2 app.

Before you purchased these two units did you have a functional system?
