S1 app cant add device - stuck telling me to update

I’m using the S1 controller and I have a play one and a play three. I have the iOS app on ver 26.

I’m trying to add a second play one but in the app when I go to add a device, the app tells me it needs to update and it wants me to get the Sonos app.  I’ve tried deleting the S1 controller app and re-downloading it  I’ve tried checking for updates in the S1 controller app  But no matter what I do, it won’t let me add a device because it insists the app needs to upgrade to the Sonos app

how do I get the S1 app to quit forcing an upgrade and simply let me add a new device ?

I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here, their lawyers get sensitive about GDPR.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

If the Play:1 is already running S2 firmware, you need to use the latest Sonos app to setup the device initially, then select the option to downgrade to S1, which should then allow you to add the device to your existing S1 system.

That was not the scenario.  I never got to the point of the S1 controller even finding the new device to know if it was on S2 firmware or not.  It was just stuck in a loop.

Then, it seems the S1 controller was set to update automatically, so overnight the existing Play 1 and Play 3 upgraded so the next morning when I opened the S1 app to play some music, it told me there were now zero compatible devices and I had to use the S2 app.  The night before I had been using the S1 app and playing on the 2 speakers, no issues.

I’m now on S2 with both original speakers and that let me add the 3rd speaker after having to hardwire it to the switch and updating it.  But a new problem has emerged where choosing “Everywhere” will only play the music on 1 device or another but not actually “everywhere”.  You can see that the app thinks it is playing everywhere as the sound bars go up and down but music actually only comes out some but not all the rooms.  I can change which room gets music by selecting it individually but when I change to “everywhere” the music never comes out the other speakers.

current setup

Play1 + Play 1 set as left and right pair called Living Room

Play 3 set as Kitchen

playing music everywhere will only play in one room, not both
