Radio streams cut and and/or drop

New Sonos ERA 100 units.  Linksys mesh network and 450Mb internet.  Sonos units via 5gHz to either main node or child node.

Absolute Radio played either by Alexa (worse results somehow) or Sonos assistants.  Service starts and then will randomly drop for 5-10 seconds, or give up entirely.  Using the Sonos VA, an advert will be inserted into the dropped stream.

Sonos support say that there is no issue with my network and that it must be Rayo dropping the stream - but if so, how come others haven’t mentioned it.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Does VA mean Voice Assistant?

We don’t have access to the same data that Sonos does, but I’d certainly suggest a simple network refresh, as a precaution. Unplug all the Sonos devices, then reboot the router. Wait two minutes, then plug in the Sonos devices again.

If an advertisement is being dropped in, that usually would mean that for some reason, the streaming company has not received a signal from the sending server, and assumes it’s been restarted or new, so a ‘pre-roll’ ad is inserted. It’s the way streaming companies pay for providing the service, since nothing is ‘free’ in this world.

You may want to check with the streaming service that Absolute Radio is on, but it sure sounds like the issue may lie on Absolute Radio’s feed, and you need to contact them.

This is the second ‘Absolute Radio’ post I’ve responded to in the last 24 hours. I’m not sure your contention that no one else has reported it is valid, but I don’t recall, offhand, what the previous issue was, either, just that involved Absolute Radio.

For what it is worth, it would be pretty unusual for the speed of the internet to your router would have any significance, we’d be much more interested in the speed from your router to your speakers…a number that’s harder to ‘know’.
