Two possibilities spring to mind. First is wifi interference causing an issue with your speakers connecting to router, and ultimately, the music source. The second is also a network issue, just a bit less discoverable. However, if you unplug your Sonos devices, and reboot your router, it may resolve the issue. Just be sure to allow your router a couple of minutes to come back up before plugging in your Sonos devices.

What happened to the Sonos commitment that its system allowed for music to be played from any room? My router and speakers and units are not in the same room. Can I get my money back?

Huh? What’s stopping you from grouping the various rooms? The grouping function hasn’t changed in forever, I play across multiple rooms daily, and in fact am doing so as I type this.
