Please help an old lady set up her new speakers!!

You need one system, but you add each speaker to a different “room” in that system. The room name is just a label to identify one speaker from another in the control app - eg Kitchen and Lounge. 
 

In the app, select Kitchen and then what you want it to play. You can then have Lounge play the same music by grouping, or you can select Lounge and then a different music to play in there. 

If they’re still set up as a pair you’ll need to separate them and then define the room name for the “other” speaker.

Hello! You need just the one system. So:

• If not already done, unpair the two speakers so they are no longer stereo paired. This should be in the same part of the app as when you paired them.

That’s it. You’re done! :)

• To play music on one speaker, bring up your list of speakers.
  • To do this, either tap the name of your Sonos system on the top left of the home screen, or drag up the ‘now playing’ section from the bottom of the screen.
  • Tap the speaker you want to play on - this then becomes the ‘live’ speaker.
  • Search for music or select music, press play, and it will play on that speaker. 
• Repeat this to play different music on the other speaker. 
• If you want to play the same music on both speakers, then:
  • while one speaker is playing music, tap the small speaker icon near the bottom right of your app screen (it looks a bit like two books on top of each other but this is in fact two speakers). This brings up a grouping screen.
  • Tick the box next to the second speaker, and press Apply.
  • The music from the first speaker will play in sync on the second speaker.
  • (This is different to stereo as it plays the full sound on both speakers, rather than splitting the sound across the two.)

You just need one system, which will consist of the 2 Era 100s, with a single Era 100 in it’s own room.

If you currently see both speakers in the app and they are in a stereo pair, all you have to do is go to the room settings (the cog wheel in top right, then click on the room name of your speakers), then look for “Remove Stereo Pair”.

The room names given to each speaker can easily be changed at any time, so don’t worry too much about which speaker is which when separating the stereo pair.

When you have the speakers showing in separate rooms in the app, swipe up the bar at the bottom of the screen to select between the rooms. Whatever room shows on the bar is the room selection where selected music will start to play.

A “Room” is the controller entity through which you select and control music and audio play. “Room” is mostly a logical concept. As you add a player to a system it will initially become a unique Room. You can “Bond” two identical players as a stereo pair. This pair then becomes a single Room in the controller, rather than two individual rooms. Similarly, you can Bond identical, non portable, players and a SUB to a soundbar in order to build a surround Room.

Rooms can be “Grouped” to play the same audio content. When playing music, Grouped Rooms will be time aligned with each other.
