I’m trying to troubleshoot an issue with no high frequencies being produced from my Play5:Gen1.
I have the board out, have removed the 2 100uF capacitors which are apparently the root cause (their appearance is fine but they measure shorted).
Before I purchase and install new caps, what about the 200uF capacitors residing right next to them? I don’t want to fix something that ain’t broke but while I have this apart I’m wondering if I should be proactive? Thoughts? Your experiences?
+17100uF caps are not that expensive. I would change them all to save yourself some headache.
The original Play 5 was releases in 2009 - 17 years ago. Caps dry out so change them
The Play 5 Gen 2 was released 11 years ago - use the same reasoning.
Also search other sites for PLAY;5 repairs, rather than hoping someone who has done a repair will notice this post.
I’m suspicious that there are additional issues resulting in the capacitor failure. In my opinion it’s too much of a coincidence that two capacitors would simultaneously short without some sort of provocation. This provocation could have damaged other capacitors in the circuit and replacing them now will likely prevent future failures.
Often cap failure is a symptom of an upstream issue with the supplied power.
