I have recently bought a new Play 5 Gen 2 and was going to sell my Gen 1 on Ebay as it would be a shame for it to go to waste. However, I am struggling to get it to connect to the V1 Controller either via Wifi or via an Ethernet Cable. I have tried my phone and MacBook.

The Play 5 Gen 1 just gives the usual “Cannot find any products” so I cant be sure its working properly.

When I connected the Gen 2 it connected first time with no issues albeit thats on the newer controller version, etc.

Any suggestions welcome as to how I can get the Play 5 Gen 1 connected just to make sure its working ok before I put it up for sale. Thanks

Maybe see if this Sonos Support link will perhaps assist you… (but note this is only if you prefer to run your Play:5 (gen2) within the S1 Sonos App rather than the new Sonos App).

Note: to setup your Play:5 (gen 1) separately on S1, you likely need to factory reset it, ready for resale (its status light will flash green when it’s ready to be setup) - if you want to just test it again, for some reason prior to selling on, then I’d start with a fresh install of the S1 App. It needs to be on a mobile controller that meets these system requirements:

Also ensure the local network (if using WiFi) is 802.11b/g/n backward compatible and is using security mode WPA2 personal (recommended), or try the product wired.

I’d also power off the Play 5 (gen2) just temporarily whilst you test these things and don’t forget to factory reset the Play 5 (gen1) again before selling it on.

Cool thanks. I tried to get it working before I bought the Gen 2.

I will certainly try the factory reset. Hopefully that will be the answer as I havent tried that. I will update when I have. cheers

Thanks Ken. The factory reset was needed and then the phone app found the Play 5 Gen 1.

Cheers for your help.

If you do plan to sell on the older Play:5 (gen1) - don’t forget to factory reset it again - so the purchaser can then just setup the speaker out the box.

Note you could keep the speaker too and either run the two speakers separately on S1 & new Sonos App respectively - or you could even downgrade the new Play:5 (gen2) by following the instructions in my first post above and run both speakers in the S1 Sonos App only - allowing you to group/play the two speakers together etc.
