The Sonos website says that Play:3 is compatible with S2 or S1. Several posts in this forum indicate that Play:3 can connect via S2 app. I’m trying to move Play:3 from the S1 app to the S2 app - unsuccessfully. This is what I’ve done so far.

S1 app doesn’t have a “forget this system” choice, so I quit the app, and rebooted my Android Galaxy S21 with latest OS.

Factory reset Play:3 (lights only ever flash white then go to solid white)

Play:3 was also plugged in via Ethernet cable.

Started S2 app.

Chose Forget this system (I have a sound bar hooked up through S2)

Add components.

S2 recognizes both sound bar and Play:3

Choose Play:3 to connect

Error message “This component is only compatible with S1 controller:”

Sound bar connects fine.

Any ideas? Thanks.

I run a couple of PLAY:3s (not stereo connected) using S2 with no issue.

If I recall, and it’s been a long time now, you have to update from S1 to S2 by initially using the S1 app.

I think, if you reinstall / fire up the S1 app, then go to the room where the PLAY:3(s) are, you should have the option to upgrade/update them. Once that’s done, your S2 controller won’t recognize them as S1 devices, but S2 devices.

Thanks for the responses. Neither suggestion worked.

The upgrade/update led me to a list of compatible devices.

I followed the advice in the support link, which ended up updating the S2 app (already updated), but still didn’t recognize the Play:3. The check compatibility choice in the S1 app is greyed out. When I chose it anyway, it led to the Google store entry for the S2 app.

Seems like, based on your posts, that while you’ve updated your controller to S2, you haven’t updated the speaker itself to S2. You may benefit by a call to Sonos Support to discuss it. They should be able to walk you through the process.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.
