I recently got new WiFi and was able to successfully connect my other Sonos One devices via WiFi. My older Play:1 though wouldn't factory reset so, based on other questions & answers here I connected it via Ethernet to my router and was able to successfully reboot and add it to my system. The problem is that it wont get added to the WiFi and no matter how many times I go through the steps to “manage/update network” the device never pops up. I've tried unplugging it from the Ethernet and adding it but no dice. Trying to do a factory reset without the Ethernet connection doesn't work either.

A basic check first: have you disabled wifi on the speaker?

When you say factory reset didn’t work, do you mean the factory reset itself didn’t work, or that when you tried to add it back into your system as a new speaker after the reset, that didn’t work?

Wifi is currently enabled.

The factory reset only works when it is plugged into the ethernet cord. If i try doing it without the ethernet cord the light continuously flashes orange and never turns to green.

So when you press and hold the play button, plug in the power, and keep holding the play button, you don’t get to a flashing orange and white LED?

Edit: Don’t know if you are hitting this condition?

The fact that you get an orange flashing light and it goes green when you connect the ethernet cable and can then see the product in the app looks like it has not done a factory reset. If it had done a factory reset, it would not connect and would not show up in the app. This is why you then can’t change/update the WiFi as the Play:1 can’t do that. It needs to be reset and re-added as a new product…

That makes sense, surely. You’ve changed your wifi, so it can’t yet connect on wifi. Connect on Ethernet and do the reset as shown here: https://support.sonos.com/en-gb/article/reset-your-sonos-product

You should get the green LED per this guide: https://support.sonos.com/en-gb/article/sonos-led-lights

Then set up per this: https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/set-up-your-sonos-play-1 remembering you’re adding it to an existing system.

I’ve got the same problem - my Play 5 is set up fine, but I recently tried to add my Play 1 and it just won’t work.

First it it won’t discover it, then it does but says it’s not connected (this is in my iOS app)

I’ve got a solid white light on the unit

I’ve tried connecting the Ethernet cable

I’ve tried resetting - but the instructions to do so include a ‘join’ button which my speaker doesn’t even have

I’m in a doom loop!

Press and keep holding the play/pause button while you unplug and re-plug the power on the Play:1. That should get you to the flashing orange and white light at which point you can let go of the button.
