play:1 speakers with new App

After updating to the new Sonos App, I can no longer play to my Play 1 speakers. I have to connect to my Sonos Beam 1st then I can connect to the Play 1 Speakers. But I can’t control the volume on the Play 1 Speakers, only the Beam.

any ideas?
