Play 1 fault after firmware update

I’ve had 2x Play 1’s connected as surrounds to a Beam in my living room for a number of years which have worked faultlessly, until very recently.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed one of the Play 1’s wasn’t showing up in the app and said disconnected, but the white light was flashing.

On investigating the Play 1 flashed up with a firmware update which it performed and seemed to initially connect ok so I didn’t think anything more.

The next day I noticed the speaker wasn’t connected but there was now a strange sequence of lights - as follows:

  • white light on for 20 seconds
  • white light off then flashes 3 times
  • No lights for 3 mins
  • above sequence repeats.

The Play 1 does not show in the app at all.

I have tried every combination of hard/factory reset, including plugged in via Ethernet but the speaker is stuck in the above sequence.

Sonos support have been absolutely useless and said nothing more than the speaker is likely now defective and needs to be replaced.

Has anyone had any form of similar problem, particularly after a firmware update, and have any solution please?

I can’t even find reference to the flashing white light sequence I am experiencing to understand if this is a fault code that indicates a particular problem with one or more of the internal components.

The only thing that I can suggest is to power down the Play:1 for about 1 min and then power back on.  Then remove the surround speakers from your Beam and re-add the pair of Play:1’s.  Please don’t factory reset your devices.

Thanks for the suggestion - after a lot of unplugging the Play 1 I did then remove the surrounds and try to add the speak back, but to no avail.

Since then I have unfortunately I have tried factory reset c25-30 times before Sonos support suggested doing exactly the same. All with the same disappointing end result :-(
