Hoping you can help

Wanting to upgrade my system to new Arc, sub and 2 x Era 300s

I wondering whether it is better for real spatial / surround sound to mount the Era 300s on the wall - above and behind the couch, rather than on stands close to couch? It is quite a large room - approx 12m x 7m

Am thinking of putting the Era 300s on the wall behind the couch (the wall is about 3.6m behind the couch)
in the photos you can see the wall - with speakers would be attached above the glass balustrade at a height of about 2.4m

I am also thinking of adding an Era 100 to the room setup above the dining table.

 

So my question - wall mount the Era 300s? Or keep them closer to the couch on stands?

Closer to couch without any doubt. You would feel strangely detached from the surround sound with it so far behind you, even using the Era 300s.

Surround speakers should be ear height, and slightly behind the listener for greatest impact - exactly as shown in your photo currently.  (Sound engineers working on TV and movies place sound in these positions to maximise the effect, so mounting them so far behind you would not be how the soundtrack was set up.)

An Era 100 for the dining area sounds sensible too. Big enough for stereo from a single speaker, but not as powerful as the Era300 which would be overkill there, I’d say. (Not sure what you mean by “above the dining table” - on a stand? - but certainly it would be good for that area.)

Ah, I just looked back at your photo and get it now. Maybe in the corner facing into the room for best stereo spread then. Or a stereo pair of Era 100s either end of that wall/table..?

Anyway, all too specific now, so I’ll leave you to your interior audio design! 😁

I’d lean to a stereo pair of 100s mounted above the long window in the dining area.
