Hello - I have 2 x Era 300s on a wifi network and would like to add a couple more smaller speakers to the system to fill out the room. Usecase is music in a midsized room.

Budget is an issue so looking at second hand, will older models like Play 1 do the job? Any older models that wouldn't work?

Anything supporting S2 will work, so Play:1 will be fine. 
 

There will be sonic differences so you can group, but not pair, Era and Play:1. 

Play X are getting pretty old, maybe stay a bit newer?
