I have discovered two Sonos speakers that have not been used for about 14 years. I think they may be fives. I cannot connect them using an Ethernet cable to my router and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts. Are they still usable?

If they haven’t been used in 14 years, you will likely need to call Sonos Support to get an appropriate update to the speakers. And, you’ll likely need to connect them, at least temporarily, to your LAN.

Sonos has not retired any speakers they’ve released, only ancillaries, such as the two remotes and the Apple 30 pin connector. At the least, these speakers should be operable using S1.

They should be useable? Since you’re not sure what they are please post pictures. If they are Gen1 Play:5’s the pictures will verify that for us.

If you can't connect them to Ethernet at home drag them to a friend's house and borrow theirs.

Do you have any currently working SONOS units on your network? Why can’t you temporarily wire one of these old units to your network?

Is this an apartment house where a central WiFi serves all tenants? If so, you’ll need to install a travel router.
