You guys should develop a mini speaker that would plug directly into a power outlet like a nightlight, so we can put them all over our house with no wires… you could call it the “Sonos Plug” 🤗

Hi @TJ99

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

It would certainly be an interesting experiment in just how small a wireless speaker can get!

Thank you - I've marked this thread as a feature request and it will be seen by the relevant teams for consideration. Keep the ideas coming!

Echo Flex was exactly that; but the tiny size of it meant that while the sound quality was adequate for Alexa conversations, music sounded too tinny.

Hi @TJ99

Further thought - I gather you are not from the US? Their plugs frankly suck and would not hold the weight of an underweight, week-old shrew, never mind a functional speaker - for this reason alone, I would not expect to see this idea come to fruition. @Kumar makes a good point, but we did recently acquire a speaker driver manufacturing company - who knows? Well, us I guess, but not me specifically.

Something's gone wrong

Moderators: Can’t we fix this!? I had a nice reply typed, but it was trashed.

Hi @buzz

Did you get that message when trying to post a reply? I was not aware that issue was still happening - I’ll flag it with the boss. Thanks for flagging.

@Corry P,
Yes, attempting to reply.

Hi @buzz

I received word back on that:

According to Insided/Gainsight, this is due to a security token expiring after one hour. What this means essentially is that if you have a topic open for one hour and then try to reply, the token will have expired by then and you won't be able to reply or make a change to a topic without first refreshing the page. It seems to be by design, but is certainly new behaviour (since about January).

So, if you’ve simply had a page open for a while, refresh it before posting - this has the additional benefit of showing new posts that were made since the last refresh. If you’ve spent one hour carefully crafting a response (not unheard of, so in my opinion this is, well, silly), all I can suggest is highlighting the whole post and choosing Copy before try to send it. I have asked for us to put in a request to Insided/Gainsight to increase this to 2 hours.

I hope this helps.

It is more than drivers, the enclosure size also comes into play. While Sonos has done wonders with small enclosures as used in the play 1 units, the enclosure still needs to be able to accomodate drivers that go back and forth to a much greater degree than what larger ones in larger boxes need to, to get a similar sound.

OK scratch that - they changed it to 8 hours already so it should not still be happening - we’ll let them know.

100% agree - I think the idea is a long-shot, to be sure. Some laptops and phones sound surprisingly good these days, but I don’t think they are quite up to Sonos standards!

Thanks. Maybe they think that I changed time zones while typing. (I’m in a fixed location.)

If you guys were as innovative as you say you are, you’d figure it out.. I have a Bose micro sound link that is about as small as you’d need to make it and it sounds amazing… I’m  Just giving you a free multi million dollar idea, but you do with it what you want 🤷‍♂️

😂 love the description, some of the euro socket and plug combinations aren’t much better. round socket with devices having a smaller/thinner hexagonal plug.

Even in the UK with our 3 pin design, outside the kitchen, the majority of uk houses have sockets towards floor level not a metre+ off the floor.

@TJ99 Sound quality is subjective and amazing is never a word I’d associate with the Bose speakers I’ve heard in the uk. For the wide range of small bluetooth speakers around, good sound for their size/price sure, but none of them I’d consider having an amazing sound from any manufacturer. 🤷

Apologies - I got a little negative there. I recently watched a YouTube video of an American reacting to a video about UK plugs - I guess some of the details got stuck in my head!
