My Sonos refuses to stay in the room i set it to

I have a Sonos One unit, probably 5 years old, that I originally had in one room and moved to another. I changed the room in the app and inevitably it always switched back to the old room.

I have tried factory resetting it twice and it still goes back each time. How is this so hard?

Fun fact: Sonos software is so great that there’s actually no way to remove a device from your system in the app.

It turns out that other systems, such as Apple’s HomeKit, have priority in location names. You may want to check in those apps to see if they’re set up with your Sonos ‘rooms’, and are changing them back for you.

If not, I’d recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of having the name changed ‘back’, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here, their lawyers get sensitive about GDPR.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

The factory reset is rarely the cure and often makes things worse.

Please don't until you have contacted Sonos support or you have encountered one of the few exceptions called out in the support documentation here.

This would be super helpful information to have in the knowledge base but my search found nothing.

Thanks, that worked.

Second entry here?

And here: (PIT* you can't sort by date and get many years old posts first)

No need to manually remove Rooms from the App, they are auto-removed when not seen for a few days.
