Hi folks,
I’m a long term Sonos customer, circa 2010 with the original Play 5 and now with speakers dotted around the house.
In the living room I have the Arc with a Sub (Gen2) and 2 x Play1s. I recall this system generating really punchy bass but after trying it recently all I can hear is muddled bass. There is no clarity whatsoever and I’m not entirely sure when this changed. The system is not truplay tuned but it shouldn’t need to be to generate half-decent sound. It’s so bad that I played the same track (Money for Nothing) on both the Arc/Sub and a single Five and the Five is a clear winner. The Five is an incredible stanalone speaker but there’s something not right with it being so much better than the Arc + Sub.
In terms of EQ I have the following: EQ Bass +2, EQ Treble +8, Loudness disabled, Sub Level +3. Phase tried at both settings with no real change. The loudness doesn’t really make a difference either. For comparison the Five EQ is set to Bass +3 and Treble +5 with loudness enabled. I tried resetting the sub and rejoining it to the room. Various power cycles of it and the arc. A restart of the router etc.
I initially suspected the Sub but I have a min-sub which I joined to the same room and it was showing a similar muddled bass response. So could this be a software issue? I did suspect my ears until I tried the Five 😅
Diagnostic ********** submitted with all EQs set flat if there are any Sonos peeps on here who want a look. I tried the Support online chat which eventually directed me to the phone number but I don’t have time for that right now. Hoping the community will have a good idea 💪 which doesn’t involved Truplay (don’t have an iPhone 😕).
Cheers, Stephen
