I was despairing getting clear voice on a pair of Sonos 1s at low volume until I found if you face them backwards with the rear towards where you are voices are suddenly clear and prominent!  Give it a go as I was about to give up and try another make.

Hello @IoW Dave, welcome to the Sonos Community!

I am glad to hear you are now satisfied with the audio of your Sonos One’s stereo pair.

If you’d like, please provide a bit more information about your experience. What are you listening to? Is it music or podcasts?

Do you have an iOS device, and if so, have you tried to tune your speakers with Trueplay?

Thank you for sharing.

I have a stereo pair of Sonos 1’s either side of my bed to listen mainly to podcasts or talk radio in the morning or at night.  I find if the volume is low that voices are very muddy and difficult to hear and its actually better to use my iPhone speakers than the Sonos pair even though I have tweaked the audio to increase treble and reduce bass.  Trueplay didn’t make much difference (but sends the dogs mad every time I use it so I try to avoid it!).  I found by chance that turning the speakers back to front improves speech 100% and so use it that way.  I guess its something to do with internal speaker orientation but it certainly works.
