ERA 300 Combo adapter

Hi all,

I’ve read that the Sonos combo adapter for the ERA 300 (which has both 3.5mm analogue and ethernet inputs) allows for direct streaming into the unit.  I’m assuming that this should allow for better quality music, as only the only conversion would be via the unit’s internal D-A.

Does anyone have experience of this setup, and if so, have they had a notable improvement in music quality over Bluetooth 5, wi-fi 6 or 3.5mm audio input via Sonos adapter?

Not quite true though for lossless though, right? Lossless (and spatial I think) uses adaptive streaming on Sonos - if the link cannot handle the high bit rate it will drop back to the lossy version.

This is dependent on link speed, which may not be a direct match to (100mbit) Ethernet vs wireless.

I’m not talking switching versions.  There is no mechanism that will take a lossless file and gradually degrade that file according to the connection method.  It may play a different (lossy) version instead, something which is easily checked on the Now Playing screen.  But it won’t subtly degrade the lossless stream in mid-song because the signal has degraded.  It will stutter and dropout.

Ah yes indeed.
