Question

Era 100 - connectivity issues

Hi

we have 1 Era 100 in the living room and 1 Era 100 in a TV room. Both rooms are downstairs.

living room Sonos is close to the main router.

tV room Sonos is close to a second hard wired router.

we only have 1 wi fi across the property and no issues there.

im finding it impossible to get both speakers to show in the app at the same time. I can get them to show up independently depending on where I am in the house. So, impossible to connect them as a group. I’ve factory reset both and no joy. I’ve also followed a chat call and no joy there.

no idea where I’m going wrong. Any suggestions would be much appreciated please?

thank you

@PC1980, Two routers with two DHCP servers? Please describe your network setup in detail.

What is the model number of these routers?

A router is a take charge type of device that expects to keep all of its clients isolated from other routers. Since you have multiple routers, a client device will be captured by one of the routers. Phones are portable devises that will connect to a router that is within range. Only SONOS devices connected to that router will be visible and controllable. As you move around and the phone connects to the other router, a different set of devices will become visible.

in most cases one of the routers can be reconfigured so that it no longer enforces exclusive control. This is usually not a big deal. In most cases you should then reboot any devices that were connected to the reconfigured router.

I suspect the wired router is cabled to the main router and intended to function as an access point, but is not configured correctly.

Hi

Yes, it’s definitely cabled that way.

any idea on how to resolve this? Is it going into the wired router settings and changing to access point?

thank you.

It’s the bog standard Sky SE210 (max hub, I think - the white one) router.

we then have the SKY SR203 router (black one) in the living room.

have sky tv in both rooms and they work fine.

thanks

As others have said in response to your post, only one router should be residing on your network. The way you have things setup, one router is handing out IPs in a particular subnet, for example: 192.168.1.1 and the other router may be handing out 192.168.2.1

Although they look similar, both speakers are getting IP addresses on different subnets. So they cannot speak to each other.

Since neither router has the ability to be placed in access point mode (AP mode), you will need to purchase an access point, or a router that you can configure as an access point.

Thank you. Makes sense.

i assumed (wrongly) that it would work as they are both operating off the same wi fi, but didn’t appreciate that.

Did you set up the speakers to be part of the same household? Speakers/rooms not being visible in the app at the same time could also mean you’ve set up two households on the same Sonos account.

I don’t think so - when I go into system it’s one speaker, or the other.

thanks though.

I wonder if this would work - connect one speaker into the TV room router with an Ethernet cable, enable SonosNet and then run both speakers through that?

Era 100s are not compatible with SonosNet.

You simply NEED to replace the second router with an access point. That will solve your issue.
