I just returned a pair of era 100s to costco. I bought them in December 2024 and was unable to pair them. They showed up in the app as Optimo1’s.
yep. The box said Era 100, and the label on the bottom. The build quality seemed inferior to my Ones. Have no idea why they would only show as “Optimo 1” In the app, other than guessing that they were originally built as Optimo and then re-labeled for sale as Era100?
Was super disappointed, and, glad the return was so easy. And I'm going to stay very happy with Ones.
Anyone else experienced this?

Hi @Soleil

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

“Optimo 1” was the pre-release project name for Era 100 - I presume that if you had updated the software, the speaker would have then identified itself as an Era 100. It was probably pre-loaded with the earliest firmware version that supported the speaker.

I hope this helps.

I worked on it for a couple hours.
Couldn’t get it to update… too much of a hassle for $450 and so I returned them. Super disappointed that Sonos would ship speakers with a years old operating system installed.

Hi @Soleil

Sorry to hear that!

Super disappointed that Sonos would ship speakers with a years old operating system installed.

Well, I think the real question is how long were those speakers in that shop for? It sounds like they were from the first batch and sat in the store for a while.

Regardless, I have not heard of this before - I would be very surprised if you ever came across this again.

I purchased them (as a set of two ) on costco.com 12/2024 and they were shipped directly from Sonos.

Thus my disappointment.

Hi @Soleil

If you bought them from Costco, I really don’t think they would have been shipped directly from Sonos - I am not in America, however, so perhaps things are done really weirdly over there.

To buy direct, you must go to www.sonos.com. We also have official eBay stores where you can purchase second-hand, but still get a warranty:

I hope this helps.

Return address on box was Sonos.

Hi @Soleil

Then I guess things are done differently with Costco 🤷‍♂️. My apologies.

I’ll see if I can noise-up anyone across-the-pond about this. Thanks for flagging!

Costco does seem to have deals with several manufacturers to drop-ship things directly to the customer eliminating the stop at a Costco warehouse.

Partly cost savings but also in line with their whole efficiency drive.
