Is it worthwhile or possible to connect a legacy Sonos system to a new ARC system?

And no, there’s no possibility of connecting an S1 system or speaker to an S2 system or speaker. As @buzz suggests, you must have all speakers operating on the same system.

Check compatibility here. If your existing units are S2 compatible, there is no immediate need to replace anything.
