Can’t control Playbar volume using LG OLED TV remote

Hi folks,

I’ve got an LG OLED55C8PLA TV, connected a Sonos Playbar by optical cable. For years I’ve been able to adjust the volume of the TV output through the Playbar using the LG magic remote.

As of about a week ago, this has stoped working. I can adjust the volume of music through the SONOS app using the remote, and I can adjust the volume of the TV using the app, but not the TV output with the remote.

I’ve replaced the remote and it hasn’t helped. I’ve tried the Remote Control Set-up in the SONOS app too. Have contacted LG and SONOS for help, but neither could fix it.

It may be an LG firmware update, but I’d have thought someone else might have had the same problem and can’t see that others have.

Anyone have any helpful ideas?

Dave

Generally, these are due to forced firmware updates to the TV, as you’ve surmised. What happens, frequently, is the TV switches the remote from IR back to whatever wireless system, either RF or Bluetooth. I suspect you’ll need to go through the process of setting the remote up to use IR again, after which it should work with the PLAYBAR. You may need to, after resetting the remote to IR, go through the Sonos setup again, but I give that a smaller chance.

Many thanks for replying. Sorry if this is obvious… do you know how to set the remote up to use IR?

Not offhand, no. Sonos has some FAQs about various processes, but I’d be referring to the TV’s manual, since they made the remote.
