No, use the SONOS adapter.
I think OP is saying he does use the right adapter, but attaches it to a USB thumb drive. As Sonos expects an analogue signal to the adapter this won’t work.

It doesn’t just need the Sonos audio adapter for the line-in connection, it needs a device that will play the audio over that link too, like an MP3 music player, for example, (assuming the tracks are in a compatible/playable format).
Any music player with a line-out that can connect to the Sonos Adapters 3.5mm analog input should work.
A USB key though is not going to work all by itself.

ok, thanks for the info... I also have a Ruark R5 and I can just put the key in it and it works, that's why I was thinking of doing the same with Sonos... Thanks again :-)
