I have been listening to Apple Music on my Play 1s from my MacBook Pro for about two years without any issues. A few days ago I swapped out my old router for a new eero Max 7 and have been working through the usual issues. Now Apple Music doesn’t show/recognize my Play 1s. After extensive time with Sonos tech support, they said to delete the Sonos app on my MacBook Pro and re-install it. I was able to download the 63 MB dmg file from support.sonos.com/downloads but the app wouldn’t install when I tried to drag it from “Sonos” to “Applications”. Apple says it is an incompatibility problem with the Sonos app and I tend to believe them. I have reset and reinstalled my Play 1s on the new network using the Sonos app on my iPhone and I can play from Apple Music on my iPhone to the Play 1s without any issues. How do I get the Play 1s to show up on Apple Music on my MacBook Pro?

Not being able to install the Sonos app on your MacBook could well be just that you need to enable installation of apps from outside of the App Store.
Not sure of the path on the very latest MacBooks (as mine is a few years old) but go to your System Preferences - Security & Privacy - General, and then click on ‘Allow Apps downloaded from Apps Store and Identified Developers’. You might need to click the padlock before and after activating this option to allow it to become clickable.
Then try installing the Sonos app on your MacBook again. (There should be no incompatibility as it was installed simply on my wife’s a 2023 Macbook.)
Thanks for the reply, Rhonny,
Apple support and I went through all the settings and, among others, confirmed that the “Allow Apps Downloaded from … Identified Developers” was enabled. The issue is when dragging the “Sonos” icon to the “Applications” icon to install the app, it doesn’t install. We even tried dragging the dmg file for the app directly to the Applications folder. The downloaded file showed up in the Applications directory but it didn’t open or install the app.
Getting the app installed is really a secondary issue. Again, my main issue is getting my Sonos Play 1s to show up in Apple Music on my MacBook Pro. Any other thoughts, folks?
When you swapped out your router for the Eero 7’s, did you make the SSID/Password the same as the old router or use new ones?
The Play:1’s require a full factory reset to change the WiFi credentials. This will need a phone/tablet to complete setup with as the Mac desktop app cannot do this.
If app setup works, then you should be able to see them for Airplay from the Mac without the Sonos Desktop App.
Thanks for your reply, Ian.
I did change the SSID and network name when I installed the new router. But I also reset and reinstalled the Play 1s from the Sonos app on my iPhone 12. Both speakers work and I am able to play music from Apple Music through the Sonos app on my iPhone without any problem. But the speakers simply won’t show up in the list of available speakers in Apple Music on my MacBook Pro.
