Airplay used to work on my Play:1 but now it is not listed under airplay compatible devices. I would not have purchased the device if i had known they would remove connectivity. Are there any options for return or exchange? If not, I don't want to purchase a new Sonos devices if my preferred usage becomes removed in the future.
I have never had access to AirPlay 2 on any of my PLAY:1s, they were designed long before AirPlay became a ‘thing’. I have always had to send an AirPlay 2 signal to a Sonos One, and then group it with a room that contains a PLAY:1.
Hi
Welcome to the Sonos Community!

As mentioned, however, they can be grouped with a speaker that does support AirPlay and then play that feed too.
Your opportunity for getting a refund on your Play:1 ended 45 days after you bought it.
I hope this helps.
Corry,
Apologies for asking this, but could someone post instructions on how to do this?
This would be a great workaround for the current software issue regarding access to one’s Music Library while the Sonos engineering team works out the solution.
Thanks in advance very much!
Joe
Hi
Assuming the speaker that can play AirPlay is speaker A, and a speaker that cannot is speaker B, please do the following:
- In the App from which you wish to play (not from iOS/macOS settings - that initiated AirPlay v1, which is unsupported), open the AirPlay settings and choose to play to speaker A only
- Open the Sonos app
- Swipe up from the Now Playing section to bring up the list of rooms. Select speaker A
- Tap the grouping button (icon shown below) and select speaker B (and others, if desired), click Apply
Please note that we are not “working out the solution” - if your Music Library does not presently play, please follow the steps outlined here:
Or, get in touch with our technical support team for direct assistance. Your Music Library will not play without intervention.
I hope this helps.
Corry and the originating posters:
Thanks to all of you for allowing me access to my 50,000+ song library that’s bee gone since the May 2024 update!
p.s. I finalized and got my first novel published in 2023 using that library for inspiration and emotional support, so I want you to know that this workaround has been life changing as I begin a sequel.
Please let Patrick Spence know and thank him for having you on this support team, Corry.
