So I have a new place with ceiling speakers, with no visible branding on them.
I have successfully connected a pair to my Connect:Amp, but I would like to parallel wire another pair, but I don’t know if these are 4 or 8 ohm speakers. If they are 8 I’ll be fine (based on the user manual for the Connect), but if they are 4, what is the worst that could happen? Is it possible to measure such a low impedance with a multimeter?
The Amp will go into fault mode and shut down.
“Impedance” is an AC characteristic. A simple DC multimeter cannot measure this. CONNECT:AMP is well protected. If the impedance is too low, the amplifier will shut down -- and it’s very anal about this. If you accept the shutdown as a warning, the one time event is not destructive.
If you can find a brand for the speakers, you can usually look up their impedance.
The shut down will not necessarily be instant because it is based on current and temperature. Playing the speakers quietly may not trigger a shutdown.
