Question

Adding Sub 4 to room

I can’t add my Sub 4 to my « Living Room » where I already have 2 x Sonos One, 1x Five and 2 x Era 100.

The system does not propose to add it to the room.

You can't have a Sub alone, it must be paired with speakers before you can add the set to a room.

Are you confusing room (of your house) with Sonos Room (a set of speakers) in your post?

There is no way to have that collection of speakers as a Room, although they may all be in the same room.

You can add the Sub to any of the Rooms, just select them in the settings and s roll down to the add sub menu.

Thank Sonos marketing for the confusion between Room and room.

I assume you have created a group for your speakers to form your “Living Room”?

Try ungrouping them and creating two separate stereo pairs with the two Era 100s together and the Ones together. Then you can choose to add the Sub to one of the stereo pairs. Then you can regroup the rooms to fit your Living Room again.

Are all the speakers in the same space or are they actually in different room in your home?

Thank you for all your replies. But still struggling.

Don’t forget I also have a Five in this group of speakers.

They’re all in the same room (my living room)

I ungrouped them all.
Created 2 pairs of stereo with the Eras and the Ones

Added the sub to the Eras.

That’s now 3 Rooms.

Created a Group to be able to play them all at the same time but the app doens’t propose it. I have to tick the 3 Rooms.
How come I can’t have them all in the same Room ?it doesn’t make any sense :(

How did you have them all in same “room” initially? As I understand it, there is no way to add five different speakers to the same “room” without creating a room group.

What also seems odd is three different speakers with different sound signatures all in a single room.

Maybe Saved Groups will be useful for you.

@Romain.d

You are clearly not understanding what constitutes a Room in Sonos speak vs a Group.

The fact that you have all the speakers visible in the app is great. That means you were able to add them as separate rooms first and then connect two speakers of the same model as a stereo pair (if desired) which combined them into a single room with a name of your choosing.

If you for example combined the Era 100’s as a stereo pair they became a room. Any other speakers remained as a room of their own.

Now… if you combined the stereo pair of Era 100’s with the Five (which is a room itself) via the app you created a Group which is not a room. It’s just a Group that consists of multiple rooms. You can’t add a sub to a Group.

To add a sub to Sonos you must first open the app and select “Add a speaker or component”. This assumes the Sub shows a blinking Green LED. If not you must factory reset it to that state.

Now that the sub is ready… the app will find it and guide you through the steps to add it to your system. Once added the app will ask if you would like to add it to a room (not a group). The app will actually show you speakers (rooms) to which the sub can be added. If you do not get the aforementioned option that means your speakers (rooms) are still in a group which you will have break up.

I hope this helps.

Sometimes it helps you wrap your mind around what your Sonos are doing if you completely ignore the fact that your house has rooms and that you call them specific names.

There is no connection between a room in your house and a Sonos Room other than your Sonos can be in a room of your house. But to Sonos that is of no consequence, you could put all your Sonos in any room, even shuffle them about and Sonos wouldn't notice. You can even have the right, left and Sub of a Sonos Room in different rooms of your house and Sonos wouldn't be impacted.
