I am new to Sonos and have spent hours searching how to turn off the speaker when not home, the only way to stop the sound is to tap pause, must be a better way. Help

Hi crb60ski

Sonos speakers and other components do not have an ON nor OFF switch. When plugged in they power up and when not being used they go into a low power (standby) mode.

Cheers!

So just using (Pause) is the only way to turn off sound, is that correct?

Yes, either via the app or via the top controls.

You can unplug it or use a smart or dumb switch to remove power but that isn't a good idea. The boot time is going to prove frustrating at a minimum. Sonos is about providing you music at the touch of a button, not after a minute or two and some fiddling. I can't tell you what the power cycles will do for your device's lifetime but I'd suspect it will shorten it due to the stresses generated and thermal cycling.

I leave mine powered on at all times, hit pause and let them settle into low power mode when not in use. Couple ZPs and Play5 still happy with that since 2006, no problems with my newer gear either.
