Switch between Bluetooth and TV using the Sonos app

I just purchased the Sonos beam ultra.
apart from a load of issues setting up the soundbar and it’s not showing in the Sonos app sometimes I’m really confused on how to use this device.

I have a turntable connected via Bluetooth and a tv connected via earc.

But the app doesn’t show me an option to switch between the two. I need to physically go to the soundbar and press the Bluetooth button to hear the turntable and even this not always working.

I really miss my Bose soundbar.

As said before the normal way for Sonos products to initiate an already paired bluetooth connection is selecting the Sonos device as bt output from the bt source device. With a smartphone that works without any problems. So I think you should take a look at your turntables manual how to connect to the last used bt device.

Turntable connected via Bluetooth.. I cringe every time. But to each his own.

The Beam Ultra is equipped with a USB C port that you can use to connect the turntable directly to it.

You just need the adapter.

Then you can select the line in source from the app when you want to change from TV audio to the turntable.

I agree with @Pools-3015 because the only disadvantage of line in option is the need to place the devices nearby for the cabled connection. On the other hand you get a lot of advantages.
If you still prefer the BT connection, normally the BT source, in your case the turntable, should connect to the paired soundbar when BT output starts / is activated on the turntable. So maybe a setting is missing on your turntable or there’s another with Beam Ultra paired device, that already is connected to the soundbr via bluetooth.

I don't do this but see a possible issue.

Are you trying to use Bluetooth with the TV turned on?

The HDMI input has priority by default, there is a setting (autoplay?) to disable that.

Thanks for the input, but I must push back.

This is not an acceptable answer for a premium brand like Sonos.

I had Bose soundbar and it was super easy switching inputs and this should be taken care for by the app.

I should not purchase an adapter to have a functioning setup.

To connect my turntable to the Beam Ultra I will need an RCA to 3.5mm and the line in adapter

Sorry but if you look carefully at the replies to your post you will note none are from Sonos.

If you want a response from Sonos you need to call Sonos, not ask in a user to user forum.

Also, did you try my suggestion above, no purchase necessary.

@Raanan, every manufacturer does not attempt to copy what another does. It may as well be a single corporation if that was the case.

Sonos works as I expect it to, and I have learned to use it in the same manner I learned to use products from every other manufacturer in my home.

But I understand familiarity with a product…. that is very important to users.. you want to be able to use it with the gestures you have become accustomed to doing.

If you bought Sonos because it seems to be the “in” thing right now, you have two options: learn how Sonos works and get accustomed to it, or, get over your FOMO and go back to what you are accustomed to.

There is no judgement here.

I suggest you return the Sonos Beam Ultra and purchase Bose.

Sounds to me like we should take a look at your network setup first.

Please answer the following questions:

  1. What type of router do you use?
  2. Do you have a Wi-Fi mesh setup, access points, Wi-Fi extenders or powerline adapters, network switches, and if so, what models are they?
  3. Is the Beam Ultra your only Sonos device?
  4. Do you connect Sonos via Wi-Fi, or is the Beam Ultra wired to the router or a network switch?
