I have a very high 18' cathedral ceiling and thinking of placing the sub on a ledge 14' x 3' deep up. I have an outlet up there but before I get the ladder, has anybody had the "high base" experience to share.

Put it on a smart outlet so you can force a reboot/power-cycle without the ladder?
Hi El Kimosabe
Why are you wanting to place the sub above floor level?:? It's not that a sub needs to be elevated as low- frequencies are non-directional. A sub actually sounds better in a corner on the floor or at least against a wall on the floor. Speaker on the other hand can be elevated if a sweet spot is not needed at a seated position.

We have a similar room and there is no free wall space but the 15 foot plant / junk shelf is open. I have a couple small bookshelf speakers up there piggybacked off my AVR and Connect setup in another room. They sound pretty good, reminds me of the choir on the balcony as a kid in church.
