I'm considering buying a pair of Sonos Era 100s as the start of a home network. I'd like to be able to start music (i.e. from Spotify or BBC Sounds) without using the app. Is there an option to do this, for example with the touch controls?

I'm aware this could be done with voice commands but this isn't my preference.

As a comparison, my Bluetooth headphones have a touch command for "Spotify Tap" which starts music without using needing to access an app.

Is there such a function or work around with Sonos speakers?

Thanks

Tapping Play on the speaker will restart whatever was playing last.  You will have to initialize a source, but after that, the source will play every time you tap play on the device.

Hi there,

I’ve run into this too. On most Sonos speakers, holding the Play/Pause button will start playback of a favorite station or playlist without needing the app. If you want to move music to another room, group the rooms first, then press and hold Play on the speaker where you want the music to continue.

Plus, if you have/had one program playing to one room and something different to another room, a long touch will group that room to what was playing in the other (you just need to remember what was last playing where 😜).

IKEA used to sell a hardware remote called the Symfonisk Sound Controller. It featured buttons for play/pause, volume, and track skipping, along with customizable shortcuts for radio stations or playlists from any of your music services such as Spotify. Since Sonos only recently ended its partnership with IKEA, you may still be able to find this remote in stores or on the secondhand market.

The IKEA Dirigera should still be able to control Sonos. DIRIGERA hub for smart products, white smart - IKEA. The sound remote should still be available, see SYMFONISK sound remote, gen 2 - IKEA

Thanks everyone, all very helpful!
