Any hope of a new Sonos 5 speaker for hifi listeners? It seems Sonos are concentrating more on surround speakers and portable.I would another high end hifi speaker. And they never replaced the Sonos play 3.Still have my stereo pair.Great sound.

Lots of spculation and folks talking about what they want to see, nothing official.

And if there is a second generation, it will be called the Five. Sonos doesn’t make a 5. They have made two generations of the PLAY:5, though.

The speculation has mostly been from users who want an Era 500 from Sonos, but that name is pure guesswork as well.

Improving the Five would be an interesting task. Aside from SoundMotion drivers that aren't really needed what would you improve?

Now if you had a clean slate to design a Sonos Six as a pure mono/stereo-pair speaker (no 300/500 side drivers) and didn't have the constraints and expectations of another 5 / Five iteration, that would be interesting. Step up from a bookshelf/stand (Five) size to a floorstander and the possibilities really open up. I can't see any good reason to not offer an add-on height driver as an option too as so many folks have Atmos access. So a Sonos Six and a Six-A or a Six and height module?

I wouldn’t mind a true center only speaker, but there’s all sorts of additional things around that concept, it isn’t as easy as it seems…

A cut down Beam or Arc with no side channels as a center and Sonos getting the front left/right speaker issues sorted out would sell. Era-100s or Fives as the left/right would be great.

There’d need to be substantial changes to the software (if it’s even possible) and development / release of appropriate and matched to the center speaker’s profile right and left speakers. You’d likely need to swap out the electronics in that ‘center’ device, as well, so it could handle ‘all the things’. As I said, not as simple as one might think, even if they were to reuse/repurpose existing speakers as those right and left speakers.

All in all, probably not as easy as we all want. Sonos included. There’s likely a reason why we haven’t seen this open request done yet. It isn’t just a desire issue, IMHO.
