Play 5 gen version 1 or 2 ?

Best answer by controlav

Look at it: all three are very different physically. Gen 1 has a handle in the back to make it easy to move. No handle = gen 2. There are more scientific ways of course, but eyeballs and hands work just as well.

What is your question? Yes, there are two generations of the PLAY:5. Neither are still in production. The first gen is S1 capable only, the second gen can be either S1 or S2.

The current version of the speaker is the Sonos Five, and is sold in retailers and the Sonos website.

Thanks - that works. I have a Gen 2.

Now I have to see if I can my new Sonos 5 to my Play 5 group ( I know I can’t pair them as stereo configuration)

As long as they are both on S2 in the same Sonos household, you can group them.
