Is is possible (if so, how) to use my gen 1 Play 5 on Sonos 2 thru Sonos Connect (not amp), just as one would use a regular speaker?

I cannot think what point there would be in doing this. My guess is that you are hoping to incorporate your Play:5 gen 1 into your S2 system by doing this. But the Connect/Play:5 combination would not sync with the rest of the S2 system (because of the audio lag on line-in), and so the main purpose (I presume) would not be achieved.

If both are running S1, then the PLAY:5 will connect with the CONNECT as it always has.
If you use the RCA outputs of the Connect to the 3.5 mm input of the play 5 I’d think you could do that.
You’d need to use a S1 controller to set the Play 5 Gen 1 to auto play.
