I currently have a beam and play 1 grouped. How much of a difference would pairing another play 1 be compared to my current set up?

The surround mode, with the addition another Play 1 will be good and you can switch to "full mode" for music and I think you will like the improvement there too.

If you get another play one and pair it you get a stereo pair which is a big difference from one play one
If you then bond them with the beam u get 5.0 surround sound when watching movies
Well worth it especially if you are ever gonna invest in a sub
