I received a Play 5 that appears to be "old". When was the first Play 5 manufactured? Can I tell from the serial number the date of manufacture? Thanks.

Try Sonos support, options are on the Contact page and some are open 24x7. Give them the serial number and they should be able to give you a date, either then or when the main offices open on Monday.

There are two different versions of Play:5 speakers. I don't have manufacture dates, but here's when both of them started being sold.

The first generation of the Play:5 speaker began selling in November 2009.

The second generation of the Play:5 speaker began selling in October 2015.

I have two of the 1st Gen Play 5s and they are great speakers, they even have a headphone output that makes them really handy in some situations.
