Is the figure behind "WM: " significant?

May I know, the meaning of the number that appears behind the "WM: " indication in the "About My Sonos System" dialog? I discover mine seemingly displays random number & the number changes depending on the number of devices that are powered on. For example:

When my PlayBar isn't powered on, my system shows:

Associated ZP: 192.168.1.120

When the PlayBar is switched on, it shows:

& some additional questions:

What does "OTP: " mean?
& why are the hardware versions of my Play:1s different, i.e.: Hardware Version: 1.8.3.7-2 versus Hardware Version: 1.8.3.7-1?

WM:0 means the devices are running on Sonosnet, with at least one wired component.
WM:1 means the device is running in wireless mode direct to your router's wireless network.
WM:2 means the device is connected to the Playbar using 5ghz wireless, ie it's configured as a surround speaker.

I believe OTP stands for "one time programmable" (or to that general effect). E.g., it's a write-once device, typically used for things like the pre-boot code. The idea is that you prevent a hacker from changing the early boot code and installing malware/etc that gets loaded before the OS bootstraps. (Remember that Sonos devices are all really an embedded system running Linux under the hood.)

I always thought it stood for 'Over (the) Top Protocol' and was linked to the IPv6 networking protocol for 128 bit addressing. Something to do with Cisco and virtual addresses where a WAN is seen as part of a LAN.

I think I have see screenshots on the forum in the past, that shows an IPv6 address next to the OTP entry.

I'm not absolutely sure though... Just something I have seen/read at some point in the past.

My home network has globally routable IPv6 address space. The only thing I've seen in the OTP field of my Sonos units is something that is clearly a version number. I believe if you dig in the various debug items in the Sonos 1400 web server, you will also find reference to "one time programmable" (or similar name). I think it might be in the dmesg file if you have recently rebooted the Sonos device, as its part of the POST process.

As you can see, neither of the Play 1's are showing WM:2, should they be, or has this changed, or is it because they are connected via the Bridge and using Sonos Net?

WM:2 is only applicable to home theatre surrounds/Sub if the system's in WiFi/Standard mode. You're in SonosNet mode, so WM:0 is correct.

Thanks Ratty

Only had the Play 1's since Saturday, wasn't sure if I'd done something wrong!

Next step, a Sub, just wish they still did the Matte Black one 😞
