If I connect a source device, such as a CD player, to an Era speaker will the music play only through that particular Era speaker or can it be routed to also play through my other Eras and/or beam?

As long as the Era is not configured as a surround speaker the line-in adaptor can be used. You can then group other rooms to play the same source.
In addition you can use it as an input for your system, so you can play from that input to a different room without needing to listen on the Era itself.
You can even play the Line-In source on another speaker while playing something else on the Era with the LIne-In.
