Never fun to wake up one day and find Sonos doesn’t recognize any of your speakers.

I have two Play:5 (Gen 1) speakers and two Play:1 speakers and all are running on the S1 app due to the Play:5s.

None of them could be found by Sonos.  Unlike the S2 App Firewall message, there is no message other than no speakers could be detected.

After hours of searching for answers and experimenting, I finally found a process that worked.

A shout out to all you IT guys that say “Have you tried turning it off and then back on?”.  And by off, they mean unplugged…and by unplugged, they mean for 5 minutes.

Unplug Modem and Router. Disconnect the Ethernet cable between Modem and Router.

Let them sit for at least 5 minutes.

Unplug all speakers

Plug in Modem, once completely rebooted, reconnect the Ethernet cable and  plug in Router

Starting with the Play:5, reset to factory settings by pressing the mute button while then plugging in the unit.

Keep mute button depressed until you see the alternating Orange and White lights.

It will eventually go to Green.

Open the S1 app and “Add Product”. (Play:5 Gen1 don’t need to be downgraded as they can’t be used on S2 app and thus will not have S2 software).   Play:5 Gen 2 will need to be downgraded following the Play:1 directions below)

It added the Play:5 without any problems.

Now for the Play:1 speakers.

Reset to Factory settings by pressing the >II button while then plugging in the unit, keeping the button pressed until you see the alternating Orange and White lights.

Now open tne S2 app (not the S1 app) and go to Settings/Switch System/Set up a new System.

The app will scan for the Play:1 speaker.

Once it finds the Play:1, go to Settings/Visit Help Center/Sonos 1 App/Downgrade Product to S1.

After the Downgrade is complete, go to the S1 App (not the S2 app) and +Add Product

It should now recognize the downgraded Play:1 speaker.

I did this sequentially with each speaker and each was recognized and added.

Once the Play:5 was added, I started playing music to make sure it didn’t drop out of the S1 system, probably not necessary but I did this with each newly added speaker by adding it to the group.              A small celebration of victory that confirmed they were still connected.

I hope this works for all you Legacy Sonos owners.
